What are Estimates?

    This week talked about making estimates using jars with 10 items inside for reference.  The kindergarteners learned to make "smart guesses" using the reference jar with 10 unifix cubes inside and comparing it to the estimate jar.  We had students guess, 20, 12, and 18.  They were able to make guesses that were very close to the actual number of cubes in the jar (20).  We followed this activity up by creating an estimation station, where I will put new items in the reference and estimate jar and we will make estimates each week.
