Textiles: Weaving

Our next art adventure began with a read-aloud called Rainbow Weaver.  Rainbow Weaver was about a girl who lived in Guatemala who wanted to weave like her family.  She ended up reusing plastic bags to weave items to sell at the market.  After reading our story, we watched a short video of a shop of weavers in Guatemala.  Then, we learned that people in Israel also weave!  We watched a short video of a shop in Israel and watched a man use a loom to weave kippot and other Jewish garments.

We continued learning about how much work weaving was by doing weaving art activities.  We wove with paper and yarn.

We wove with paper plates and yarn.
